Hello Justice Poetic Poem a Week Newsletter Friends!
It has been longer than a week but … we have been hit by the flu. And I do not recommend it at all! It is easy to forget what it is like to feel healthy when you are sick. And, it is easy to forget what it is like to feel sick when you are healthy. In this way maybe we do live in the moment, on occasion. I know my daily efforts to practice mindfulness, self-compassion, lovingkindness, and so on often seem so hard. I find myself spiraling again and again.
This whole week I have been sick with my daughter. Right next to her. We have been the very definition of bed rest. But at the same time, lost in the midst of a custody battle that seems to not let go, 5 years on, my mind goes to missing my daughter, missing my daughter, missing my daughter, even as she is right next to me. So, I do the mindful thing, I recenter, I listen to my healers and helpers. I try harder.
My girl and I watched a lot of movies, tried to read, and mostly slept. A lot. I managed somehow to write three poems. So here they are, my flu poetry trilogy.
Stay well, do the things you need to do to NOT get sick with this thing, and do the things you need to do, I need to do, we all can try to do, to be those calm, mindful, compassionate, kind people who cherish the moment, right?
Thank you all so much for supporting me even when I feel as if I have fallen off the edge of the earth! <3
Thank You For Sleeping On The Couch
Sincerely
